About Us About Us
Gateway worship began in 2007 as an outreach to university students. Today, students come from all over the Tulsa area but mainly from the University of Tulsa. Gateway is best described as a weekly service of celebration. It is not a seeker-oriented event, though many seekers come and many have discovered Jesus for the first time here. It is not merely a worship service for believers either, though we do celebrate the Lord's Supper once per month. Gateway worship is high in substance, low on Christian cliché and centered on making Jesus relevant, whether you are unchurched, sitting on the fence, or actively maturing in your faith. We go on a fall retreat each year to New Life Ranch and a winter retreat in Red River, NM. Students also have a chance to participate in a Spring Break mission trip.

Maggie Maggie Shaffer
I am from Seattle, Washington. I graduated from Seattle Pacific University in June with a degree in Christian Theology. I came to Tulsa in August for a school year long internship in college ministry. I found out about this internship through the Ascent Network, but the reason I applied was because God has blessed me with never-ending grace, love, and many different experiences that I should share with others. So, here I am, trying to serve God every day.
I love God, getting to know people and talking about life, reading, laughing, drinking coffee, FOOD (all kinds, except meat), and sports. I would love to meet you, so just email me: Margaret-shaffer_utulsa.edu
Michael Michael Homan
Michaels journey into the Reformed tradition, by his own account, is anything but typical. He was raised in Minnesota, growing up in the Roman Catholic Church. While attending the University of Minnesota, he became involved with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, which played a significant role in his desire to become a more faithful disciple of Jesus. A music scholarship led him to transfer to Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK where he completed a Bachelors degree in Music Education in 99 and later a M. Div. degree in 04 while also working full-time for the office of Student Development. In 1998 Michael found his home in the Presbyterian tradition while singing with the First Church Chancel Choir. In 2004, he was hired as the Director of
Student Ministries and was later ordained and installed as a Minister of Word and Sacrament, taking on pastoral oversight for childrens ministries in addition to responsibilities with student and university ministries. Michael's musical gifts are also put to good
use as he coordinates and leads the 9:30am contemporary worship service and music team. He is married to Heather and together they have three children, Sarah, Andrew, and Samuel, each one uniquely coming into their home through the miracle of adoption.
Core Groups Core Groups
Core groups are one of the best ways to find fellowship, friendship, and learn more about real life in Jesus Christ. Core groups are usually split guys/girls and are usually specific to school year.
We will have sign-ups the first few weeks of each semester so make sure you connect early! But don't worry you can join at ANY time during the school year!

Rachel Rachel Hebert
Rachel is a Texas girl who was raised in the Presbyterian Church. Rachel started singing as a little girl and was intent on being the next Broadway/Opera star. She graduated from Sherman High School in 2007 and went off to Belmont University in Nashville, TN. However, God had different plans in store for this small town Texas girl. Following the Lord's leading, she came to Religion & the Arts--a major that was the perfect combination of her love of God and her love of music.
She had the privilege of studying for a semester in St. Andrews, Scotland at the University of St. Andrews, which sparked a love of divinity and theology within her. But rachel wanted some "real world" experience after
graduating in May of 2011, so the University Ministries Internship was the perfect opportunity.
She is the daughter of Dr. Mark Hebert (Philosophy professor at Austin College) and Nan Hebert of Sherman, Texas, and is the proud older sister of Elise (a junior at University of Tulsa) and Daniel (a freshman at Baylor University). As far as future plans, hope is to go off to either seminary or graduate school where she'll continue her education in theology/divinity (but where and what she'll do are both unknowns), but for now, she's content with getting to know/loving on students, go on several "coffee dates", and reap the benefits of working under Michael through First Church and Jeffery Francis at TU.
